The Rankin/Bass X-Mas specials get all the glory, but this month, one of the non-Christmas outings can get some deserved recognition.
Danny Kaye voiced a lot of characters from "Here Comes Peter Cottontail", a stop-motion Easter special from the early 70s. Seymour Sassafrass (a peddler of magic) has a time travel vehicle called the Yestomorrowbile--Antoine the catepillar is its pilot. Antoine pilots a disgraced Peter Cottontail through the holidays, trying to give him a chance to give away a basket of eggs.
Vincent Price turns in a rare performance as the villain, Irontail.
Antoine wears a WWI aviator's helmet and goggles and a silk scarf--otherwise, he is au naturel. He IS French, after all.
Antoine is left behind in one of Peter's escapades, but turns up again as a butterfly (which is what happens to most catepillar characters in animation.) Check out "The Fox and the Hound" and "A Bug's Life" and "Monsters vs Aliens" for others.
